Basic Salad Dressing

Have you ever looked at the ingredient list for store bought salad dressing?  Take a look sometime, and I bet you'll start making your own.  Here's a great one to start with.  It's light and simple, and super yummy.  Thanks to my friend Diane for sharing.

Basic Salad Dressing

1/4 c. canola oil
2 T. white vinegar
2 T. sugar
1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. parsley
1/4 t. thyme

1. Mix all ingredients together in a mason jar.  Tightly screw on a lid, and shake for several minutes to combine all the ingredients.
2. Serve with a salad of mixed greens, croutons, cranberries, and Parmesan cheese.

Alternatives: This basic dressing can be tailored to your taste any way you like.  Use different kinds of oil, flavors of vinegar, and a variety of spices.  When I make this recipe, I have been adding Tavern on the Green, Blackberry Ginger Balsamic Vinegar (available at some grocery stores or online).

    2. SUPER DELISH!
    3. Didn't make alot, so I doubled the recipe. Would have to triple/quad for guests - any suggestions?
    4. Add bacon to the salad - we didn't tonight, but are going to in future :)

    Thanks for sharing!

  2. Suggestions for guests? Or suggestions for the recipe? :o)

When I have made it for guests, I usually double the recipe and mix in a big bowl with the greens and other fixin's. I add a little bit of the dressing at a time until everything is evenly coated. I like your suggestion for the bacon - definitely going to try that sometime soon.
