Dry Onion Soup Mix

How many of your favorite recipes call for onion soup mix?  And how many of your would rather have a mix free of all of the additives and preservatives that are in the handy dandy packets?  Here is a recipe that I have found works great, and it is simply a mix of dried spices and some sugar.  I did adapt the recipe slightly from the original though... it called for beef bouillon, and if we use that we're right back to square one with the nasties in our food.  Instead of adding the dried bouillon to the mix, I simply add beef broth to my recipes in place of the water.

Dry Onion Soup Mix

1 1/2 c. minced onion
8 t. onion powder
1/2 t. crushed celery seed
1/2 t. sugar

1. Combine all ingredients.
2. Store in a tight fitting container until ready to use.  This recipe fits well into a pint sized mason jar.
3. 4 tablespoons of the mix is equal to one standard 1.25 oz. package.

Notes:
~ Replace water with beef stock in recipes to make up for eliminating the beef bouillon.  1 cup of beef stock to 1 cup of water.
~ Because of the variety of particle sizes with ingredients they tend to settle, be sure to shake or stir well before measuring into a recipe.
