Trail Mix

With all of the outdoor activities going on this time of year... hiking, kayaking, camping, road trips... it's handy to have a quick and easy snack ready when you head out the door.  Trail mix is great to take along because you don't have to keep it cold, it doesn't take up much space, and the protein and energy it provides will keep you going.  The recipe here is for a basic trail mix, including nuts, dried fruit, sunflower seeds and of course, chocolate.  But you can mix it up any way you like.  In fact, my sister is the queen of trail mix, and maybe she can leave a comment with some other ideas for ingredients.

Trail Mix

In a large mixing bowl, stir together the following:
  • Small container of cashews
  • Small container of almonds
  • Large container of peanuts
  • Raisins, cranberries, and other dried fruit to taste (apricots and blueberries are good)
  • Sunflower seeds
  • M&Ms
 Store in an airtight container.

  1. I was hoping you would mention my awesome trail mix skills! I would love to add!!

I dry my own fruit. No high fructose corn syrup that way (actually one of the reasons I started making my own trail mix instead of buying it at the store). Dried strawberries, pineapple, mango are all delicious choices. Do not attempt to dry blackberries. They are disgusting!!!

For the nuts, I just buy a big container of mixed nuts at Sam's club. Easier that way.

    Hope this helps.
