A great way to use the homemade yogurt is to make a maple yogurt dip for fresh fruit. Farmers are busy in the woods and the sugar shacks in March boiling down sap to make maple syrup. Did you know that it takes 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup? This year’s harvest was very good, so please find yourself a farmer who “sugars” and stock up on some pure, local maple syrup.

Homemade Yogurt
Sorry I’ve been away for so long, it’s been busy here around the Ayers’ household. I’ve had time to cook a little bit, but not had time to share. I hope that you all are still checking in – there are some good recipes coming in the next couple of days! This one is for homemade yogurt. It is a very simple recipe, and well worth the effort to make it. I was a little scared the first time I made it… leaving milk sit on the counter overnight? Please trust me, this will be the most delicious yogurt you have ever had, it doesn’t even compare to the store bought variety.

Roasted Red Potatoes
With our pork chops last night, we had roasted red potatoes. We had dinner out with my family several weeks ago, and my Mom's meal came with these yummy potatoes as a side dish. This is my attempt to recreate them. Try them sometime, they are tasty and easy to make, you won't be disappointed.
Dijon Peach Pork Chops
Yesterday started off with a trip to the country to get meat, milk, and eggs. We picked up our pork at the local butcher first. Through the kindness and generosity of our friends to raise a pig for us on their farm, we now have a year's worth of fresh pork. The next stops were for fresh milk and eggs. Three stops for delicious homegrown food, and not a grocery store in site. With a full supply of pork, we had to have some for dinner. And good timing too, since my dear sister Rebekah requested just last week a recipe for pork chops. Here is a delicious recipe for Dijon peach pork chops that can easily be adapted for a simple meat and gravy recipe.

Beef Stroganoff
Not much cooking going on this week, but stay tuned for the pork chop request. It's on the menu for Saturday night! In the meantime, try this recipe... quick, easy, and tasty. I know it might not be especially appealing from the picture, but beef stroganoff isn't the most photogenic meal there is. Trust me, it's worth trying.

Honey & Butternut Squash Soup
My sister was giving me a hard time because I hadn't posted any new recipes this week. Yes, it has been a busy week, enough time to cook, but not enough time to share. I've missed you! Here is our dinner from last night, a simple soup made from local ingredients... butternut squash purchased from a local farmer last fall and frozen, home canned applesauce and honey from a local beekeeper. Serve with a salad and some fresh bread for a cozy winter meal.
